Coach Bob Phillips - Virginia Tech

Former Virginia Tech All-American Bob Phillips is the pole vault coach for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Coach Bob coached the Natinoal Champion and #3 place at the D1 NCAA Nationals this year alone!!!   During his tenure the vault program at Virginia Tech has risen to national prominence and to the top of the ACC. Twenty-three different Virginia Tech vaulters have qualified to the NCAA national championships a total of 71 times where they have earned All-America honors 51 times. In that same time period, Tech vaulters have claimed 37 ACC conference vault titles, more than all other schools in the ACC combined. In all, Phillips has coached almost 50 conference champions, two United States U20 national champions, two world university games medalists, ten NCAA medalists (top 3), four Olympic Trials Qualifiers, and two qualifiers to the IAAF World Championships.  (some of this is out of date....yes there is more....but how can you keep up with this?!!)

While competing at Tech, Phillips set the school record in the indoor and outdoor vault. He was a four-time NCAA national qualifier and was named an All-American in 1980. Phillips was also a member of the U.S. National Team that took on Great Britain in 1984 and competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in July of that year. He was inducted into the Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.  He has a personal best just over 18 feet.

MORE ABOUT COACH BOB PHILLIPS HERE        www.hokiesports.com/staff/phillips.b.html

Coach Phillips has played a huge role in the development of the technical model at VaultWorX.  He is a coaching mentor to me and has become a part of the Concannon family as a regular in our house.  We are honored each time he visits us and welcome him to our Summer Staff.

Sydney Horn - Sydney Horn - 13'6 high school PR (and missed her senior year to covid), PA Indoor State Meet Record Holder, High School All American (3rd at New Balance Nationals) and D1 Collegiate All American placing 3rd as a freshman, and 2nd as a sophomore... with a current collegiate PR over 14'7"!

Matt Concannon - Founder and Head coach of VaultWorX.  Coach Concannon has the pleasure to directly coach the top athletes at VaultWorX who achieved the following results in 2017:  Between MD and PA and the different school divisions...VaultWorX had 6 different athletes who were State Champions. Katie Jones achieved the All-time best jump in PA with a clearance of 13'9.25" and was also Indoor National Champion and Runner-up in the Outdoor Nationals.  There were also several District Records set along with several All-Time District Records set.   2018 finished with two VaultWorX  guys jumping Payton Morris 16'6" and  Joe Jardine 16'3" State Meet Record.  And a VaultWorX girl Mackenzie Horn jumping a PA #1 Outdoor Record of 13'7.25".  These athletes accounted for 3 of the 4 State Meet Champions in PA and also captured two more Outdoor State Meet Records.  2019 has already seen Sydney Horn capture the Indoor PA Championship and who has also jumped over 13' as a junior.  And numerous State Champs in MD.  2021 Update...the year for the guys - Coach Matt has had 3 different male vaulters jump over 16', with one jumping 16'6.25" as only a junior!!

**The coaches we invite to coach at Camps are the best of the best.  They are picked because of their coaching ability and their ability to encourage and achieve improvement in the athletes.  I could not be more happy for the coaches we will have on staff for this camp!
