Coach Bob Phillips - Pole Vault Coach Virginia Tech

Former Virginia Tech All-American Bob Phillips is in his 31st year as coach of the Hokie pole vaulters. During that time, the vault program at Virginia Tech has risen to national prominence and to the top of the ACC. In the ten years of ACC membership, seventeen different Virginia Tech vaulters have qualified to the NCAA national championships a total of 45 times where they have earned All-America honors 34 times including three silver and two bronze medals. In that same time period, Tech vaulters have claimed 51 ACC conference medals including 26 ACC conference vault titles, more than all other schools in the ACC combined. In all, Phillips has coached 37 vaulters (26 men, 11 women) to conference championships since joining the staff, one junior national champion, seven NCAA medalists (top 3), and one qualifier to the IAAF World Championships.

While competing at Tech, Phillips set the school record in the indoor and outdoor vault. He was a four-time NCAA national qualifier and was named an All-American in 1980. Phillips was also a member of the U.S. National Team that took on Great Britain in 1984 and competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in July of that year. He was inducted into the Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. Phillips has coached vaulters to 37 conference championship titles and was also a three-time Metro Conference, four-time indoor Virginia collegiate and four-time outdoor Virginia collegiate champion.

Coach Phillips has played a huge role in the development of the technical model at VaultWorX.  He is a coaching mentor to me and has become a part of the Concannon family as a regular in our house.  We are honored each time he visits us and welcome him to our Summer Staff.

Coach Matt Concannon - Head Coach and Founder of VaultWorX

VaultWorX was founded in Coach Concannon's backyard in 2010.  With the support of mentoring from coaches like Bob Phillips to develop our technical model, the VaultWorX Staff, and many area coaches; many VaultWorX athletes have improved and achieved amazing results.  Along the way, the athletes have won numerous State titles in both PA and MD, including several State Meet Records in both States.  VaultWorX athletes are represented on the National level each year and are also represented among the top collegiate programs in the country.

Joe Sarra - State College High School

It will be hard to achieve at this camp...but Coach Joe just might be the most fired up coach in the room.  Widely regarded as one of the best vault coaches in PA...I would go a step further and say he is one of the best high school coaches in the country.  We have been very fortunate to have Joe on the staff of VaultWorX for the last year.  His State College athletes were all young this year...with his top girl only a sophomore jumping 12'6" and an underclassman boy jumping 14'9".  In Joe's short tenure at State College...his best male vaulter put up one of the all time best jumps in PA History with a jump of 16'3 and his best girl ranks among the all time best with a jump of 12'9".  Joe could easily be leading a vault program at any D1 school in the country.  He is sought after to coach at national meets and camps like the Reno PV Summit and Sky pole vault camp in Arizona.
